Shalom beloveds
Sometimes the drought and the wilderness seasons are times meant for reflection, to be quiet and to hone in. But more importantly, it is to draw nearer to the Holy Spirit in fellowship, to receive revelation and rivers of refreshment. It is here where we gain the strength and the ability to overcome higher mountains and slay bigger giants.
I am reminded of when Elijah wished to die after he fled in fear from Jezebel. He gave up hope and he was weak. When he came to the desert, the Lord sent an angel to give him food, water and allowed him to rest. Whilst in this wilderness, he was being fed and quenched by the Lord through the angel, and he was warned by the angel that the road ahead will be too much for him. After he was strengthened he traveled for 40 days and 40 nights until he reached a cave inside mount Horeb. At this cave God came to him in a new and different way, a way he never experienced before. And the glory of the Lord was so heavy and magnificent, that Elijah had to cover his face with his cloak when the Lord came to meet him face to face. There Elijah received a new revelation from God and instructions on going forth.
Elijah trusted the instructions of the Lord. He could have given up and/or die in the wilderness. He could have just eaten the food and walked away from God. But he didn’t. Instead he had this wild faith that held onto the Word of the Lord and in his obedience he trusted the Lord once again. In the quiet cave he could meditate and wait on the Lord. Patience and faith looks differently in the desert: you start looking for God in your own ways. It is while we wait on the Lord during a wilderness season that we can experience Him through a fresh encounter. Elijah had to be stripped from the outside noise that bombarded his spirit and clouded his judgement. The Lord wanted Elijah to be so close to Him that he could hear His whisper. There is greatness formed in the caves of our silence. I pray that this Word encourages you like it encourages me, each time. (Biblical references and revelations from 1 Kings 19).
